Howard Shore

Howard Shore (geboren in 1946 in Toronto) studeerde aan Berklee en was jarenlang muzikaal leider van het televisieprogramma Saturday Night Live. Zijn filmwerk begon bij regisseur David Cronenberg, met The Brood (1979) en The Fly (1986). Daar schreef hij donkere, dissonante muziek voor orkest. Die stijl paste ook bij thrillers als The Silence of the Lambs (1991) en Se7en (1995). Met The Lord of the Rings (2001–2003) maakte hij het grootste werk van zijn loopbaan: een netwerk van tientallen leidmotieven voor volken, plaatsen en personages, zoals in een opera van Wagner. Voor de trilogie won hij drie Oscars.
