Georges Delerue

Georges Delerue uit Roubaix studeerde aan het conservatorium van Parijs, onder meer bij Darius Milhaud. Hij werd de belangrijkste componist van de nouvelle vague. Voor François Truffaut schreef hij Tirez sur le pianiste (1960), Jules et Jim (1962) en La nuit américaine (1973). Voor Jean-Luc Godard maakte hij Le mépris (1963). Het thema van Camille in die film is een trage, zich herhalende strijkersmelodie die Godard steeds opnieuw inzette. Delerue schreef lyrisch en melodieus, vaak met kleine bezetting of strijkorkest, soms in barokstijl. Vanaf de jaren tachtig werkte hij ook veel in Hollywood. In 1980 won hij een Oscar voor A Little Romance.
