El juicio

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

El juicio · El Juicio, which means The Judgment, was released in 1972 on Fania Records. It is the third record by Willie Colón and Héctor Lavoe to go gold, after Cosa Nuestra and La Gran Fuga and before Lo Mato. On this album Colón was not only bandleader but also producer, arranger, composer, trombonist and flautist.

The record has eight tracks, including Timbalero, Aguanile and Pan Y Agua. Lavoe sings and co-wrote. For some tracks, material was drawn from the work of other composers, such as C. Alonso Curet. Johnny Pacheco also took part, as a chorus member and as leader of the sessions. The band included Milton Cardona on congas, Santi González on bass and Joe Torres on piano, among others. The sleeve was designed by Aggie Whelan, under the art direction of Izzy Sanabria.

Listening

Listening tip. Listen to Aguanile and notice the percussion, because it gives the song its drive.
