Hurley
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Hurley is Weezer's eighth album and was released on 10 September 2010. It was the first and only record on the independent label Epitaph. At the end of 2009 the group had lost its contract with Geffen, after the previous record, Raditude, had been received lukewarmly. Rivers Cuomo and Shawn Everett produced the album, which, like the one before, contains songs written with outside writers.
Cuomo promised more raw rock energy. The opener Memories, with members of Jackass on backing vocals, became the first single. In Hang On, co-written by Rick Nowels, the actor Michael Cera plays mandolin and sings along. The closer Time Flies has a lo-fi folk and country sound. The cover shows the actor Jorge Garcia, who played Hurley in the series Lost. Critics received the record mostly favourably. Some called it the group's strongest record in years.
