L’Apocalypse des animaux
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
L’Apocalypse des animaux is a soundtrack album for a documentary series about the animal kingdom by the French director Frédéric Rossif, which was shown on French television in 1973. The music was recorded as early as 1970, when Vangelis was still a member of the progressive rock band Aphrodite's Child. It was his first collaboration with Rossif.
The working method is remarkable. Vangelis was not shown the footage. He recorded a series of separate pieces around the theme of nature and let the filmmakers choose from them what they needed. Later he would compose while watching the film. In the documentary far more music is heard than appears on the album, as is often the case with his soundtracks. The record reflects a period in which he was very productive and liked to experiment with technology and styles.
