Angels With Dirty Faces
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Angels With Dirty Faces · Angels with Dirty Faces is Tricky's third album, from 1998. The title comes from a film of the same name. Many guests take part: on Broken Homes PJ Harvey sings, on Carriage for Two Scott Ian of Anthrax plays guitar, and on several tracks Marc Ribot's guitar can be heard. The Moment I Feared is a cover of a song by Slick Rick. He produced the album himself, and Martina Topley-Bird sings on a large part of the tracks.
Entertainment Weekly called it his best record since the 1995 debut. According to the reviewer Robert Christgau, it is a rock record with a live band on every track, without samples, with dirty productions that suit the antisocial themes. Later critics felt that at its core it differed little from Pre-Millennium Tension: dub-tinged trip hop, supplemented with rhythms from hardcore hip hop and jungle.
