Acid Queen
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Acid Queen is Tina Turner's second solo album, released in 1975 by EMI in Great Britain and by United Artists in the United States. It is her last solo record before the break with Ike. The title comes from her role as the Acid Queen in Ken Russell's film Tommy, based on the rock opera by The Who. She recorded two different versions of the song, one for the film and one for this album.
The first side consists of rock covers: Under My Thumb and Let's Spend the Night Together by the Rolling Stones, I Can See for Miles by The Who and Whole Lotta Love by Led Zeppelin. The second side was largely written and produced by Ike Turner, and includes Baby Get It On, the last single by Ike & Tina together. Billboard praised the production, but Dave Marsh of Rolling Stone thought the arrangements were unwisely chosen.
