The Temptations Sing Smokey

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

The Temptations Sing Smokey · This is the Temptations' second album for Motown, released in 1965 on the Gordy label. All the songs were written and produced by Smokey Robinson, sometimes together with other members of the Miracles. Some are covers of songs that Robinson had previously made for the Miracles or for Mary Wells. The rest were first recorded by the group themselves.

The record contains three hit singles. The Way You Do the Things You Do has Eddie Kendricks as lead singer. In It's Growing and the group's best-known song, My Girl, David Ruffin sings, who was new to the group. The Funk Brothers provide the instrumentation and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra plays the strings.
