Back Stabbers
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Back Stabbers is the sixth studio album by the O'Jays, a soul group from Philadelphia consisting of Eddie Levert, Walter Williams and William Powell. It was released in August 1972 on Philadelphia International Records and was recorded that year at Sigma Sound Studios in Philadelphia.
For the group it was a breakthrough. The album reached the top ten of the Billboard Pop Albums chart and sold more than half a million copies within a year. Two of the group's biggest singles are on it, Back Stabbers and Love Train. Critics regard it as a milestone of early 1970s soul, a few even as the high point of Philly soul. In 2012 it ranked number 318 in Rolling Stone's list of the five hundred greatest albums of all time.
