Back On Top
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Back On Top · Back on Top is the third album by the O'Jays and was released in 1968 on the Bell label. George Kerr produced it, Pat Jaques was the engineer and Richard Tee was conductor and arranger. The four remaining original members sing on it: Eddie Levert, William Powell, Walter Williams and Bobby Massey. They all appear on the cover as well. It is the first record without Bill Isles, who left the group shortly before the recording. Massey would leave later, just before their breakthrough success at Philadelphia International Records.
The most important song is I'll Be Sweeter Tomorrow (Than I Was Today), their biggest hit for Bell. Look Over Your Shoulder also became a hit. Between the tracks sits I'll Be Seeing You, a standard by Irving Kahal and Sammy Fain. The rest was written by, among others, George Kerr, Walter Williams and Richard and Robert Poindexter.
