Travelogue
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Travelogue is the second album by the British synth-pop group The Human League, released in May 1980. It was the last with the founders Ian Craig Marsh and Martyn Ware, who left later that year to start Heaven 17. The band worked with a new co-producer, Richard Manwaring. Ware said that songs such as The Black Hit of Space were far ahead of their time: the synthesizers went through heavy distortion and overloaded the mixing desk.
The album reached number 16 on the UK chart. None of the singles, a new version of Being Boiled and a cover of Mick Ronson's Only After Dark, was a success. There is also a cover of the Gordon's Gin advertising jingle. When the group broke through in 1981 with a new line-up, the record re-entered the chart and went gold in 1982. In 2015 BBC 6Music devoted a documentary to it.
