Brothers and Sisters · After the death of Duane Allman in 1971 and the success of Eat a Peach, the Allman Brothers Band bought a farm in Juliette, Georgia. Bassist Berry Oakley visibly suffered from the loss and was killed in a motorcycle accident in November 1972. Chuck Leavell joined on piano and Lamar Williams on bass. Dickey Betts took over the role of bandleader, and many of his compositions sounded more country. The album was recorded largely over three months in Macon, co-produced by Johnny Sandlin.
Brothers and Sisters was released on 6 August 1973 and became the band's commercial high point: more than seven million copies worldwide. Ramblin' Man reached number two on the American Hot 100, the group's only top-ten hit.
