More Songs About Buildings and Food

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

More Songs About Buildings and Food · This second Talking Heads album was released on 14 July 1978 on Sire Records. It was the first of three consecutive albums produced by Brian Eno. The band became noticeably more danceable on it: singer David Byrne's idiosyncratic delivery was given more support by the rhythm of bassist Tina Weymouth and drummer Chris Frantz. For the cover the band made a mosaic of 529 close-ups of Polaroid photographs, and the back shows a satellite photograph of the United States.

The only single was an adaptation of Al Green's Take Me to the River, the band's first song in the American top thirty. The critic Robert Christgau praised the tension between Byrne's compulsive outbursts and the supple rhythmic foundation. The album made the band a group that critics widely admired, and it ranked in NME's top four of 1978.
