The Slider
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
The Slider is the seventh studio album by T. Rex, released on 21 July 1972. The band was at the peak of its fame: the press called the fan hysteria T. Rextasy, and Electric Warrior was the best-selling album of 1971 in Britain. Producer Tony Visconti recorded it in Copenhagen and mainly at the Château d'Hérouville near Paris, to escape British tax laws. Marc Bolan felt he was more honest about himself here than ever.
Metal Guru opens the record. Spaceball Ricochet and Main Man are acoustic ballads, while Buick MacKane and Chariot Choogle sound heavier. Bolan called that Zep Rex. Telegram Sam and Metal Guru reached number one in Britain. The album reached number four in the United Kingdom and number seventeen in the United States. The first reviews were mixed, later ones mostly positive.
