Electric Warrior
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Electric Warrior · In the spring of 1971 T. Rex was riding a wave of success. Ride a White Swan and Hot Love were hits in England, and Marc Bolan had appeared on television in a silver suit with glitter under his eyes, which gave glam rock its start. Recording began in March at Trident Studios in London and continued in Hollywood and New York, with Tony Visconti as producer. Visconti felt that the relaxed atmosphere in America gave the album its special feel.
Bolan now wrote about himself, about cars, women and boogie, instead of the poetic fantasy worlds of his earlier albums. The sound is electric and poppy, with tricks such as flanging, reversed guitars and tape loops. Guest musicians included Rick Wakeman on piano in Get It On, and Flo and Eddie sang the androgynous backing vocals. The album reached number one in England and is seen as a key record of glam rock.
