From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Pure Smokey · Pure Smokey is Smokey Robinson's second studio album and was released on 15 March 1974 on Tamla Records. It is one of the first records he made after leaving the Miracles. Guitarist Marv Tarplin, who left the group a year after Robinson, followed him to California to help him with his solo work. Together they wrote several songs for this album.
Robinson produced almost everything himself, only A Tattoo he made together with Willie Hutch. The arrangements were by Russ Turner, Gene Page and Robinson himself. Among those playing on the record are Bobbye Hall on percussion, Henry Davis on bass guitar and Jeffrey Osborne on drums. Virgin Man was released as a single, at five minutes the longest song on the record.
