Pure
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Pure was released on 16 September 1991 and was the third solo album by Midge Ure, the former frontman of Ultravox. It was his first record on a new label, BMG-Arista. For two years he gathered the material, in his home studio in London and in the basement of his house on the Caribbean island of Montserrat, after he had cleared up the damage from Hurricane Hugo. According to him, the central theme was the highs and lows of love.
The record opens with See Hope in the Morning Light, a blend of African rhythms and a gospel choir, supplemented by uilleann pipes from Paddy Moloney. The song was meant to be uplifting about life itself, not about religion or the afterlife. He wrote Let It Go? about people who think someone else will sort things out. Besides those two, Cold, Cold Heart was also released as a single. The album reached number 36 on the UK album chart.
