Dig Me Out

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Dig Me Out is the third album by Sleater-Kinney, released in 1997 by Kill Rock Stars. It followed the acclaimed Call the Doctor. After that album, drummer Janet Weiss, of Quasi, joined the band. She remained the group's longest-serving drummer. Producer John Goodmanson recorded the album in December 1996 and January 1997 in Seattle. The title refers to the snowstorm that forced the band to literally dig themselves out of the studio.

The record is rawer and rockier than the previous one. The two singers, Corin Tucker and Carrie Brownstein, take turns and interrupt each other, and without a bassist the guitars can sound huge. One More Hour is about the end of their relationship. The lyrics deal with heartbreak, survival and irritation at sexism. The reviews were glowing, and in retrospect the album is regarded as the band's breakthrough.
