In Dreams

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

In Dreams is Roy Orbison's fourth studio album. Monument Records released it in July 1963, in stereo and in mono. It was recorded at RCA Studio B in Nashville, Tennessee. The record is named after the single In Dreams, which entered the Billboard Hot 100 in February 1963 and reached number seven there.

Alongside original work there are covers, such as All I Have to Do Is Dream, Dream and My Prayer. Orbison wrote or co-wrote four of the songs. Blue Bayou was a second single and reached number three in the United Kingdom. Thom Jurek of AllMusic heard emotion and deep atmosphere in the music, and found the choice of songs excellent. In the United Kingdom the album spent 58 weeks on the chart and reached number six. In 2004 Rolling Stone placed the title song at number 319 on its list of the 500 greatest songs.

Listening

Listening tip. In In Dreams, listen to the emotion and the atmosphere that Orbison builds with his voice, and notice how the accompaniment stays with him.
