Siren
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Siren is Roxy Music's fifth studio album, released on 24 October 1975 by Island Records, and in the United States by Atco. Chris Thomas produced it. The sound is more direct and poppier than before: according to the critic Simon Frith, less electronic clutter and more solo playing. Eddie Jobson played violin and synthesizers, John Gustafson bass. The cover shows the model Jerry Hall on the rocks at South Stack on Anglesey. Bryan Ferry thought of the location after a TV documentary.
Love Is the Drug became the biggest hit, number two in the United Kingdom and number thirty in the US, the band's highest position there. Both Ends Burning reached number 25 in the United Kingdom. In 2003 Rolling Stone placed Siren at number 371 on its list of the five hundred greatest albums. Stephen Thomas Erlewine called the record a classic, while Simon Reynolds found it conventional and tame.
