Ride a Rock Horse

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Ride a Rock Horse is the second solo album by the English singer Roger Daltrey. It was released on 4 July 1975 on Track in the United Kingdom and on MCA in the United States. The record was made while he was also busy filming Lisztomania, a film by Ken Russell. On the cover, designed and photographed by his cousin Graham Hughes, he appears as an exuberant centaur.

Three singles were released: Get Your Love, Walking the Dog and Oceans Away. Walking the Dog is a version of a song by Rufus Thomas and reached number 52 on the British chart. The album itself reached number 14 in Britain and number 28 in the United States. For Hearts Right, Gerald Scarfe made a video with drawings and animation. Scarfe later became known for his work for Pink Floyd.

Listening

Listening tip. Listen to Walking the Dog and consider how the singer turns this older Rufus Thomas song into a version of his own.
