Muse Sick‐N‐Hour Mess Age

Muse Sick‐N‐Hour Mess Age · The title of Public Enemy's fifth album is an inverted expression: music in our message instead of message in our music. With it the group says that the message is more important than the music. The record came out in August 1994 on Def Jam, in the midst of the gangsta rap era. Critics wondered whether the group was still relevant.

First single Give It Up reached number 33 on the American Hot 100 and remained the group's only top 40 hit in the United States. Reviews were mixed: some found the rhymes and the production weak, others praised the combination of a storm of sound and funk. Sales suffered from Def Jam's move from Sony to PolyGram. Even so, the album went gold in October 1994.
