The World According to Gessle

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

The World According to Gessle was released on 2 May 1997 and is the third solo album by the Swedish pop singer Per Gessle. It was his first solo record in English. The title is a variation on The World According to Garp, the novel by John Irving. As backing musicians he used members of Brainpool and Gyllene Tider.

The singles Do You Wanna Be My Baby?, Kix and I Want You to Know each received a video by the director Jonas Åkerlund. After the end of Lay Down Your Arms there is a hidden track: another version of Kix, sung as Elvis Presley, under the title Cha-cha-cha. The Japanese edition also contains the ballad Love Doesn't Live Here Anymore. The album topped the Swedish album chart. In 2008 a double album appeared with 26 extra tracks.

Listening

Listening tip. Listen to Kix and notice the smooth pop melody, then look at the end of the record for the hidden version that sounds like Elvis.
