Howdy!
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Howdy! came out in 1956 and was Pat Boone's second album. The first, a compilation of previously released singles, was not a true studio album, so this became his studio debut. Boone left rock 'n' roll aside and chose old and newer standards. The repertoire runs from Cole Porter's Begin the Beguine to Harbor Lights, and from cheerful, bluesy numbers to gentle ballads. Billboard wrote that he concentrated on standards in a variety of moods.
The album reached number 14 on the Billboard chart and, according to the magazine, was the nineteenth best-selling pop album of 1956. AllMusic praised Boone's musical instinct: never too much in That Lucky Old Sun and never too little in Would You Like to Take a Walk.
