From Her to Eternity

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

After the break-up of the Birthday Party, Nick Cave began a new project with Mick Harvey. They were joined by Blixa Bargeld of Einstürzende Neubauten, Barry Adamson and Hugo Race. The group took the name Bad Seeds from the last Birthday Party EP. From Her to Eternity was released in May 1984 on Mute Records, produced by Flood and the band themselves. Most of it was recorded at Trident Studios in London.

The album kicks the listener in the face less than the Birthday Party did. Cave himself said that he wanted to make the lyrics more important and that Bargeld's atmospheric, sparing guitar playing gave him room. J.G. Thirlwell co-wrote Wings Off Flies. The critical response was positive: the NME called the album visionary, and Pitchfork placed it at number 63 of the best albums of the 1980s in 2018.
