Katzenmusik

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Katzenmusik is the third studio album by the German solo musician Michael Rother and was released in 1979. He recorded it between March and July of that year, at his own studio in Forst and at Conny's Studio. As on his first two records, he worked with producer Conny Plank, for the last time. Jaki Liebezeit of Can plays drums. Everything else he played himself, on guitar and electronics.

He limited his instruments and wrote the album as a suite in two parts. They are not separate songs, but twelve pieces: variations on four five-note melodies that keep returning. Most critics were positive. AllMusic called it one of his best works.
