Flammende Herzen

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Flammende Herzen is the debut album by the German musician Michael Rother and was released in March 1977. He had previously made five records, with Neu! and Klaus Dinger and with Harmonia. Rother recorded the album from June to September 1976 at Conny's Studio with Conny Plank, who had also produced Neu! and Harmonia. Jaki Liebezeit of Can plays drums.

Rother played everything else himself: guitar, bass, electric piano, organ, synthesizer and electronic percussion. Unlike with his groups, the record is entirely instrumental and he plays most of the melodies on guitar. The album has five tracks, including the title song and Karussell, which came out together on a single. A year later the music was used for the film Flaming Hearts. Most critics reacted positively.

Listening

Listening tip. Listen to Flammende Herzen and notice the guitar melody above the steady rhythm of the drums.
