Share My World
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Share My World · In 1997 Mary J. Blige faced major changes. She moved from Uptown to MCA and broke with her regular producer and mentor Sean Combs. For the album she brought in a series of producers, including Rodney Jerkins, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Babyface and R. Kelly. The record leans less on hip hop soul than her first two and more on R&B. It was her third album and the first on which she worked as executive producer. Guests include Lil' Kim, Nas, George Benson and Roy Ayers.
After the dark My Life, she reportedly worked towards a healthier life, and you can hear that in the lighter mood. Share My World went straight to number one in the United States. Alex Henderson of AllMusic praised its character and honesty, and Rolling Stone heard real singing. Other critics found it uneven.
