Stories of Johnny is Marc Almond's second studio album. It was released in September 1985 and reached number 22 on the UK album chart. Three singles were released from it, including the title track. The singer recorded the songs with his own group, The Willing Sinners, made up of Annie Hogan, Billy McGee, Martin McCarrick, Richard Riley and Steven Humphreys, supplemented by session musicians. Recording took place at Hartmann Digital Studios in Bavaria and in three studios in London.

Mike Hedges produced the record. The singer wrote all the arrangements himself. Besides piano, guitar, cello and bass, the instruments include a harp, a trumpet and a violin. Huw Feather designed the sleeve and Andy Catlin took the photographs.
