Living Things
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Living Things is the band's fifth album and was released in June 2012. Recording began in March 2011 and lasted until April 2012, at NRG Recording Studios. Mike Shinoda and Rick Rubin produced, as before on Minutes to Midnight and A Thousand Suns. It was the last album that Rubin made with the band. After years of experimenting, the band members said they finally felt at home on familiar ground.
The title refers to the many personal subjects on the record. The sound combines elements of the four earlier albums: the energy of the older work with the innovation of the newer. Burn It Down was the first single, followed by Lost in the Echo, Powerless and Castle of Glass. Lies Greed Misery premiered in May 2012 after a worldwide search on the internet. In the United States the album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200.
