Silk Purse
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Silk Purse was released on 13 April 1970 by Capitol Records and was Linda Ronstadt's second solo album. As on her first solo record, it centred on country, the music she had heard as a child. The album was recorded in January and February 1970 at two studios in Nashville, partly also in San Francisco. The producer Elliot Mazer worked with the Nashville session musicians of Area Code 615, who play on the record.
It contains new songs, such as Long Long Time by Gary White and Louise by Paul Siebel, about a prostitute. There are also covers of Hank Williams and Mel Tillis, a gospel song and an R&B song. Long Long Time became her first entry on the American and Canadian charts. Critics praised her voice. Robert Christgau called Lovesick Blues and Long Long Time brilliant. It was her first album on the American chart.
