All I Ever Wanted

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

All I Ever Wanted · After the quarrels surrounding the dark My December, Kelly Clarkson opted for a lighter, more pop-oriented album, which was released on 6 March 2009 on RCA Records. She worked with old acquaintances such as Max Martin, Dr. Luke, Sam Watters and Louis Biancaniello, and with new collaborators such as Ryan Tedder, Howard Benson and Dre & Vidal. The working title was Masquerade, until it seemed too similar to the titles of other albums of the time.

The songs are about relationships, dignity, independence and honesty, with pop punk, dance and soul alongside pop. My Life Would Suck Without You, the first single, became her second number one on the American Hot 100. Already Gone led to discussion, because it resembled Beyoncé's Halo. Critics praised her singing and her approach to the mainstream, although a few called the album over-produced. The album received a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Vocal Album.
