Make It Last Forever

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Make It Last Forever is the debut album by the American R&B singer Keith Sweat and was released on 24 November 1987. He made it together with Teddy Riley, whom he knew from the New York band competitions. They recorded it at INS Recording and Power Play Studios in New York. The work took six months. Sixteen or seventeen songs were recorded, but only eight made the record. Riley convinced Sweat to sing I Want Her in a nasal voice.

The album is regarded as one of the first R&B records with the sound of new jack swing. It spent three weeks at the top of the R&B albums chart. I Want Her became the first number 1 hit on that chart, followed by the title song, a duet with Jacci McGhee. Critics praised his pleading tenor, and Allmusic sees it as his best album.
