Infinity
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Infinity is Journey's fourth studio album, released in January 1978 by Columbia Records. It is the first album with singer Steve Perry and the last with drummer Aynsley Dunbar. Earlier the band had briefly worked with Robert Fleischman, but he was quickly replaced. Manager Herbie Herbert brought in producer Roy Thomas Baker, known for his work with Queen.
Baker built up a layered sound with stacked harmonies: each singer sang every part in unison, so that three or four voices sounded like many more. You hear that in Feeling That Way and Anytime. Patiently was the first song Perry and Schon wrote together, and Lights and Wheel in the Sky became singles. With Perry the group gained a more mainstream sound and had its biggest success so far.
