Extrapolation
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Extrapolation is guitarist John McLaughlin's debut. He recorded the album in January 1969 at Advision Studios in London. The producer was Giorgio Gomelsky, who also founded the label Marmalade Records on which the record was released later that year. Eddy Offord was the engineer. In the quartet, John Surman plays baritone and soprano saxophone, Brian Odgers double bass and Tony Oxley drums.
It was not until 1972 that the album was first released in the United States, when the guitarist was enjoying success as leader of the Mahavishnu Orchestra. It reached number 152 on the Billboard 200 there. Binky's Beam is dedicated to Binky McKenzie, a former jazz bassist.
