Whose Garden Was This
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Whose Garden Was This is John Denver's third studio album. It was released in October 1970 and consists largely of covers. The track list includes The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down, Mr. Bojangles and Eleanor Rigby, and at the end also Jingle Bells.
The title song is by Tom Paxton. Vera Lynn recorded it in 1972 for her album Unforgettable Songs by Vera Lynn. She wanted to sing it on her BBC television programme, but found the song too short and asked Paxton for another verse. He wrote it, with the forest and the squirrels, and later often sang that longer version in his concerts. The tracks from the album later reappeared as bonus tracks on reissues of the albums John Denver and Spirit.
