Our Thing
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Our Thing is Joe Henderson's second record for Blue Note. He plays tenor saxophone alongside trumpeter Kenny Dorham, pianist Andrew Hill, drummer Pete La Roca and bassist Eddie Khan. The pieces are by Henderson himself and by Dorham: Teeter Totter and Our Thing are by Henderson, Pedro's Time, Back Road and Escapade by Dorham. Alfred Lion produced, Rudy Van Gelder was the engineer and Reid Miles designed the cover.
Scott Yanow gave the album four and a half stars in his review for AllMusic. He wrote that even at this early stage Henderson showed he had the potential to become a great tenor saxophonist. The CD reissue includes an extra version of Teeter Totter, an alternate take that is shorter than the version on the original record.
