Équinoxe

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Équinoxe was released on 1 December 1978 on Dreyfus, and released worldwide in 1979 by Polydor. Jean-Michel Jarre recorded the album between January and August 1978 in a makeshift studio in his apartment in Paris, on a 16-track recorder. Whereas his previous album Oxygène came about without a concept, he now wanted to sketch a day in a human life, from waking to going to sleep. The sound engineer Michel Geiss built the rain, storm and water animations and designed the Matrisequencer 250, one of the most important instruments on the record. The cover shows the painting Le trac by Michel Granger.

The British press reacted negatively at the time, but later reviews are more favourable. Equinoxe Part 5 reached the British singles chart. On 14 July 1979 Jarre gave a concert on the Place de la Concorde in Paris for more than a million people.
