Dream Street
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Dream Street was released in September 1984 on A&M Records and was Janet Jackson's second album. It sounded more like pop than her debut, which had been more soul. Her father Joe thought the record would be a great success, but it was a disappointment. The album got no further than number 147 on the American chart. The only modest hit was Don't Stand Another Chance, which her brother Marlon produced, with vocal improvisations by Michael Jackson. The track Dream Street received her first music video, filmed during the recording of the TV series Fame.
AllMusic later wrote that the record has the gloss of 1980s pop, with strong synthesizers by John Barnes and Minneapolis funk in Pretty Boy.
