One Man Dog
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
One Man Dog was released on 1 November 1972 and is James Taylor's fourth studio album. Peter Asher was the producer. The basic recordings came mostly from his own home studio. The album has eighteen tracks, many of which are very short. There is also a quadraphonic mix with different vocal takes and longer versions.
At that moment he had just married Carly Simon and was off drugs. A reviewer of the time saw in the album a confirmation of that life and a turn inwards. The album reached number four in America. Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight reached number fourteen on the Hot 100. Critics were divided. Some praised the short tracks; AllMusic later called it a disappointment because much of it sounded sketchy and unfinished. Linda Ronstadt sings along on One Morning in May, the traditional song that one reviewer considered the best on the album.
