Titanic: Music From the Motion Picture

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Titanic: Music From the Motion Picture · Titanic: Music from the Motion Picture is the soundtrack of the film Titanic, composed, orchestrated and conducted by James Horner and performed by the Hollywood Studio Symphony. The album was released on 18 November 1997. The director James Cameron first wanted Enya to write the music. When she declined, he asked the composer, who wrote with her style in mind. The wordless vocals are by the Norwegian singer Sissel Kyrkjebø.

He wrote fixed themes for characters and events. Hymn to the Sea is a sad, wistful theme with bagpipes and voice. Southampton sounds cheerful and adventurous. The choir is digital, because he wanted to avoid a churchlike sound. My Heart Will Go On, sung by Céline Dion, he wrote with Will Jennings, without Cameron's knowledge. It won an Oscar and a Golden Globe.

Listening

Listening tip. Listen to Hymn to the Sea and notice the bagpipes and the wordless voice, which together carry the wistful theme.
