Piece of Mind
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Piece of Mind · In December 1982 the drummer Clive Burr left the band and Nicko McBrain, formerly of the French band Trust, took his place. Iron Maiden then withdrew to Jersey to write, rehearsing in the restaurant of a hotel that stood empty out of season. The fourth album was recorded in the Bahamas, at Compass Point Studios in Nassau. The mixing followed at Electric Lady Studios in New York.
The lyrics often come from books and films. To Tame a Land is about the novel Dune, Where Eagles Dare about the war film, and The Trooper about a poem by Tennyson. For Still Life the band hid a message that you can only hear if you play the record backwards: a joke aimed at the critics who called them satanic. The album reached number three on the British chart and mostly received good reviews.
