From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
“Mark Twain” and Other Folk Favorites · Harry Belafonte made his debut album in 1954 for RCA Victor. Hugo Winterhalter supervised the orchestra and the chorus; as producers, Henri René, Jack Lewis and Joe Carlton are also named alongside him. Millard Thomas played guitar.
The album contains twelve folk songs, including Mark Twain, John Henry and Lord Randall. Many pieces are traditionals. The name Paul Campbell in the credits is fictitious: it was used so that public domain material could be registered. Leonard Feather wrote the liner notes. The record reached number 3 on the Billboard Albums Chart and stayed there for four weeks. The shortest piece, The Next Big River, lasts only twenty seconds.
