Warning
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Warning was released on 3 October 2000 and is Green Day's sixth studio album. The band first worked with the producer Scott Litt, but they differed in opinion on the musical direction. Rob Cavallo then returned as executive producer, while the band themselves did most of the production work. The recording took place at Studio 880 in Oakland. While writing, Billie Joe Armstrong listened a lot to Bob Dylan's Bringing It All Back Home.
The album largely leaves behind the usual punk sound and uses more acoustic guitars, pop and folk. Misery has mariachi horns, strings and accordion; Waiting is based on a riff from Downtown by Petula Clark. The lyrics are more optimistic and sometimes political, as in Minority. The reviews were mostly positive, but commercially the album was a disappointment.
