Apostrophe (’)
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Apostrophe (’) was released in March 1974 and followed the successful Over-Nite Sensation. Both albums were made with the same musicians. The first side and Over-Nite Sensation itself were recorded together in the spring of 1973. The second side comes from various sessions in 1972, with overdubs from 1973 and 1974. The drums on Excentrifugal Forz date back as far as 1969. Like many Frank Zappa albums, it is a mixture of archive material and new work.
Don't Eat the Yellow Snow and Nanook Rubs It tell of a dream in which the singer sees himself as an Eskimo called Nanook. The story continues in St. Alfonzo's Pancake Breakfast. Apostrophe' is an instrumental jam with a heavily distorted bass part by Jack Bruce of Cream. Uncle Remus is about racism. The edited version of Don't Eat the Yellow Snow was a hit in the Billboard Top 100, and the album became the greatest commercial success of his career.
