Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace is Foo Fighters' sixth studio album and was released on 25 September 2007. After the tour for In Your Honor, with both acoustic and electric shows, Dave Grohl wanted a record that stepped out of the comfort zone. He brought back Gil Norton, the producer of The Colour and the Shape. Recording began in March 2007 at Studio 606 in the basement of Grohl's house. He finished writing The Pretender only during a break.

The album mixes hard rock with acoustic tracks and plays with dynamics: silences that burst into an explosion. The lyrics are about birth, death and life, inspired by the birth of Grohl's daughter. Ballad of the Beaconsfield Miners is the band's first instrumental track. The record won the Grammy for Best Rock Album.
