Lullabies of Birdland
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Lullabies of Birdland, from 1955, is not a record made in a single go. Decca gathered tracks from the late 1940s and early 1950s that had previously appeared on 78 rpm singles. Ella Fitzgerald sings them each with a different accompaniment: Sy Oliver's orchestra, Ray Brown's trio, Hank Jones's quartet and Bob Haggart's orchestra.
The record contains standards such as Angel Eyes, How High the Moon, Basin Street Blues and Oh Lady Be Good, besides Lullaby of Birdland, George Shearing's title song. Ella Hums the Blues is the singer's own composition. In 1998 MCA released the whole album on CD, together with Sweet and Hot from the same year.
