Have ‘Twangy’ Guitar Will Travel
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Have ‘Twangy’ Guitar Will Travel · Duane Eddy had already made a few successful singles when his first album was released on 9 January 1958 on Jamie Records. He played with his band The Rebels, whose members included Al Casey on rhythm guitar and Steve Douglas on saxophone. The Sharps provided wordless vocals, with cheering and shouting. Lee Hazlewood and Lester Sill produced.
The record blends early rock and roll with swing, country and blues, and contains both covers and original numbers, such as Rebel Rouser. Five singles released before and after the album reached the Billboard Hot 100. The album itself spent 82 weeks on the charts and peaked at number five. The guide MusicHound Rock calls it one of the cornerstones of modern rock guitar.
