Deftones
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Deftones is the fourth studio album by the American alternative metal band and was released on 20 May 2003 on Maverick Records. It was the last record with the producer Terry Date until Ohms in 2020. With costs of 2.5 million dollars, it is among the most expensive albums ever made. Many songs revolve around guitarist Stephen Carpenter's low G# tuning.
Still, it is a versatile album. Lucky You is a dark, soft trip-hop piece with DJ Crook and the singer Rey Osburn. In Anniversary of an Uninteresting Event a grand piano and a toy piano can be heard. Minerva is known as a shoegaze song. The reception was divided: Rolling Stone was enthusiastic, Pitchfork negative, and the album did less well than White Pony. The singer Chino Moreno said in 2020 that he himself was dissatisfied with the record.
