Bone & Bari
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Bone & Bari · Trombonist Curtis Fuller recorded this album on 4 August 1957 for Blue Note, which released it in early 1958. Alfred Lion was the producer and Rudy Van Gelder recorded the session. Alongside baritone saxophonist Tate Houston, a rhythm section plays with Sonny Clark on piano, Paul Chambers on bass and Art Taylor on drums.
The distinctive feature of the record is the combination of trombone and baritone saxophone. AllMusic describes them together as a thick, round-sounding front line, and calls the pairing unique. On some tracks one of the two horn players sits out. The sleeve was designed by Tom Hannan, the photographs were taken by Francis Wolff and Leonard Feather wrote the liner notes.
